Three Books I'm Reading Now, 2/12/24 Edition

The Books I'm Reading Now

I'm reading Eilish Quin's upcoming debut, a retelling of the story of the most despised witch in Greek mythology, Medea; I'm listening to S. A. Cosby's Southern small-town murder mystery, All the Sinners Bleed; and I'm reading The Night Tiger author Yangsze Choo's upcoming title, The Fox Wife.

What are you reading these days, bookworms?

01 Medea by Eilish Quin

The witch Medea may be the most despised and reviled figure in Greek mythology. She killed her own children in order to exact revenge against Jason, leader of the Argonauts, who deceived her.

But what if that isn't the whole story of Medea, the daughter of a sea nymph and granddaughter of a Titan? Powerful with divine blood, yet largely powerless because she is a woman, Medea is full of contradictions. Destined to marry the hero Jason, she puts her fate in his faulted hands.

I'm reading a prepublication digital edition of Medea, Eilish Quin's debut novel, which is scheduled for publication February 13, courtesy of NetGalley and Atria Books.

02 All the Sinners Bleed by S. A. Cosby

Titus didn’t have the heart to tell Darlene that no one told anyone all their secrets. Even the people we loved kept pieces of themselves hidden away from the light.

Titus Crown, former FBI agent, has returned to his hometown in Charon County, Virginia, to serve as the first Black sheriff in history.

But Titus is facing challenges beyond the obvious--like the effects of generations of racism in his small Southern community.

There's a killer in their midst, and Titus and his small team are struggling to keep up--to track evidence, attempt to piece together potential motivations for crimes, try to pinpoint who's at fault--and keep Charon citizens safe as they investigate.

I'm listening to All the Sinners Bleed as an audiobook.

S. A. Cosby is also the author of Razorblade Tears, a book I listed on my Greedy Reading List Six Satisfying Novels about Revenge, as well as Blacktop Wasteland.

03 The Fox Wife by Yangsze Choo

It's 1908 in Manchuria, and a courtesan is found dead, frozen in a doorway.

Meanwhile, rumors abound of foxes, which are believed to have the magical ability to transform into beautiful men and women.

Bao, a detective set on uncovering the mystery of the woman's identity and death, has long been fascinated by the elusive fox gods--and he feels tantalizingly close to making contact with them for the first time.

Meanwhile a family whose sons all seem cursed to die before their twenty-fourth birthdays has its luck begin to change when a new servant, Snow, arrives.

But Snow is hunting the killer of her child, and Snow and Bao will travel through China and Japan on their quests for the truth.

I received a prepublication digital edition of this title, scheduled for publication February 13, courtesy of NetGalley and Henry Holt & Company.

Choo is also the author of The Night Tiger, a title I listed in my Greedy Reading List Six Historical Fiction Mysteries to Intrigue You.
