The Books I'm Reading Now
Library audiobook alert: I'm listening to the twisty mystery First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston; I'm listening to The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman; and I'm listening to author Arundhati Roy's memoir about her mother, Mother Mary Comes to Me.
What are you reading, bookworms?
01 First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston
Evie Porter is embracing her current fake identity and getting closer to her mark Ryan--who she's lured into being her boyfriend. Now she awaits her mysterious boss Mr. Smith's instructions on what information he needs her to obtain to take down Ryan or his associates.
After what happened on her last job, she can't afford to make mistakes. But Evie is one of the best, and she expects to manage this job--whatever it may turn out to be--without much difficulty.
But the situation isn't exactly what it seems, and when a woman comes to town using Evie's birth name, which only her boss knows, Evie isn't sure whether she's being tested or whether she's being set up for sabotage.
02 Mother Mary Comes to Me by Arundhati Roy
The author of The God of Small Things shares a memoir around her fierce, tough mother and their complicated relationship.
Roy was shaped by the woman she calls "my shelter and my storm," and she tracks back to her childhood in Kerala, India, and how her single mother founded a school, through to Roy as an award-winning author, to her mother's 2022 death and Roy's surprisingly powerful, ongoing reactions to it.
I'm listening to this as a library audiobook.

03 The Man Who Died Twice (Thursday Murder Club #2) by Richard Osman
Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim are septuagenarians feeling let down after the thrills, danger, and success of their first solved mystery (related in The Thursday Murder Club).
But things start getting interesting when Elizabeth's ex-husband shows up, under the protection of fellow MI-5 spies, suspected of having stolen 20 million dollars' worth of diamonds. And someone has it in for him, which means danger for all.
I'm listening to The Man Who Died Twice as a library audiobook.
